چکیده

Graft copolymerization of acrylamide (Am) onto rubberwood fibre (RWF) was carried out by free radical initiation. Ceric ammonium nitrate was used as an initiator system. The effects of temperature, dose of initiator, ratio of monomer to fibre, and nitric acid concentration, on the grafting percentage were investigated. The optimum reaction temperature was found to be about 50°C for 4h and with an appropriate ratio of monomer to fibre of 3:1 wt/wt. The optimum concentration of initiator and nitric acid were 0.007 M and 0.2 M, respectively. The polyacrylamide (PAm) homopolymer was removed from the graft copolymer by Soxhlet extraction using distilled water. The pre-treatment RWF before the grafting procedure showed that grafting of acid-treated had a higher efficiency than alkalitreated and untreated RWF. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm and characterize the PAm-graft-RWF.

Adsorption of Cr(iii) from Aqueous Solutions by Polyacrylamide-grafted Rubberwood Fibre: Kinetics, Equilibrium, and Thermodynamic Studies

Cr(III) ions were adsorbed onto polyacrylamide-grafted rubberwood fibre, and effects of aqueous conditions were evaluated. The adsorbent was prepared via graft copolymerization of acrylamide (Am) onto rubberwood fibre (RWF), using ceric ammonium nitrate as an initiator. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm the formation of PAm-g-RWF. Various variables affecting the adsorp...

Synthesis, characterization and swelling behaviour of poly(acrylamide-co- methacrylic acid) grafted Gum ghatti based superabsorbent hydrogels

A mixture of acrylamide (AAm) and methacrylic acid (MAA) was crosslinked onto Gum ghatti (Gg) using N, N’-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker and ascorbic acid (ABC) and potassium persulphate (KPS) redox pair as an initiator. Optimized reaction parameters for the graft copolymerization of Gum ghatti with AAm were time (min)=90; temperature (C)=50; pH=7.0; deionized water (ml)=10; mo...
